Broken Mountain Pieces

Another small one painted tonight striving for color harmony. I have been trying to keep telling myself that the paintings I really like are more about shapes and values, and when the shapes and values done correctly, different colors can be added. This goes against my natural instinct. Sometimes it mentally hurts to not strive for a more realistic look. I am happy with the way tonight's painting worked. My dominant hue was a yellow to yellow orange, sen in the grasses at the base of the mountains. I decided to use the compliment of the dominant hue, blue purple to do the sky, and the discord (blue green), with variations of white, for the mountains. The second discord, more of a violet color, is also in the sky. Continuing to improve my knife technique. I am using a different set of palette knives the last 2 painting. These are stiffer and heavier and have allowed for better control and more uniform texture of the surface of the strokes. Thanks for looking.
